About
I am a self-taught artist working exclusively in watercolor. I do not wear glasses; I navigate and see the world constantly through my astigmatism, which naturally shapes how I perceive light, focus, and blur.
My practice is rooted in meticulous detail, focusing on the raw, tactile reality of natural, domestic, and weathered life—from biological benthic studies and flora to rusted, decaying, and wildlife. I don't paint a sanitized, idealized version of the world. Instead, I am drawn to imperfections, wear-and-tear, and raw honesty.
Working primarily in intimate formats, I explore the tension between precision and atmosphere. My work intentionally oscillates between two contrasting moods: clean, airy light and deep, dramatic chiaroscuro shadows infused with gloom and grit.
By isolating organic and raw subjects—whether a delicate marine specimen, a peeled garlic bulb, or weathered elements—and placing them against structured domestic patterns or deep, moody backdrops, I create visual studies that invite the viewer to look closer at the quiet poetry of decay and survival.
